Get Ready For The Most Awaited Indian Fair- The Suraj Kund Mela

We all dreamed as kids to be able to go to many interesting and lively fairs. One of the most awaited and interesting fairs in India is the all time favorite - Suraj Kund Mela. Indian fairs are just too much magical enough to make you feel good. Popularly known as ‘Mela’ in native Indian language, the fairs are just too much fun to go to. The well-renowned festival organized by the Haryana Tourism Department is the Surajkund Crafts Mela which is held annually in the month of February. This delightful hand-loom and handicrafts fair is planned every year to promote the traditional Indian Handicrafts in rural ambiance at Surajkund in the vicinity of Delhi. The fair was first time organized in 1981 and since then the fair continues to be a strong platform for Indian artists and craftsmen to display their skilled crafts and art work.

The visitors treading this venue have a vast option to shop for some of the world's most treasured artifact materials. This cultural fest is not only limited to the artwork exhibition but also broadcasts the delight to its audience through the modes of exceptional folk dances and musical evenings and nights at the open-air amphitheater. These events are also accompanied by lip smacking and delicious rural cuisine, adding colors to this popular crafts fair.

Each year, this Surajkund Crafts Mela is based on a theme showcasing a specific Indian state and the entire atmosphere for the fest is created and planned accordingly. The states selected for some of the previous fairs are Goa (2014), Karnataka (2013), Karnataka (2012), Andhra Pradesh (2011), Rajasthan (2010), Madhya Pradesh (2009), West Bengal (2008), Andhra Pradesh (2007), Maharashtra (2006, and Chhattisgarh (2005) respectively.

The venue Surajkund where this annual fest is organised every year is situated at a very accessible distance from Delhi and NCR.
